‘Bristol: City on Show’ published today

6 07 2012

A new book celebrating Bristol’s architectural grandeur alongside some of its quirkiest corners, is published today. Bristol: City on Show by photographer Dan Brown and architects Andrew Foyle and David Martyn, also documents how Bristol has changed over the centuries from grim industry to vibrant, and not so vibrant,  modern developments.

Short snippets of facts sit side by side with full-page photographs, some of which bear absolutely no relation to the text. But this seemingly random relationship between ancient and modern is rather like Bristol itself and it gives the book a offbeat personality, also rather like Bristol itself.

Many of the photos are taken from unusual vantage points, seeing recognisable buildings from new angles. Other historical photos give the chance to compare what was there then, and what is there now.

Bristol: City on Show is a fascinating and absorbing book for anybody who loves Bristol.

Bristol: City on Show is published by The History Press, RRP £9.99.
