Bristol Civic Society needs you

Bristol Civic Society is appealing for women and younger members to join its executive committee. The aims of the society are to “promote appreciation and awareness of Bristol’s history, architecture and living spaces”, and they often make valuable contributions to planning applications across the city.

The society’s annual awards recognise sites which have made an important improvement to their environment. The winners from 2012 were:

Wildgoose SpaceMina Road office block conversion, aka Wildgoose Space, the last building built as part of the Ashley Vale Action group’s redevelopment of an old scaffold yard.

Saint's CourtSaint’s Court, St Jude; a new build development of flats and housing next to the adapted church of St Nicholas of Tolentino.

Horfield Lodge Care HomeHorfield Lodge Care Home on the edge of Horfield Common.

St James' PrioryThe refurbishment of St James Priory, Bristol’s oldest building.
