Banksy’s Olympics art

23 07 2012

Banksy has today unveiled two new stencils with an Olympics theme, location for the moment unknown. The first shows an athlete throwing a missile rather than a javelin, while the second sees a pole vaulter jump over a barbed-wire fence onto an old mattress below.

Bristol Olympic torch relay route

7 11 2011

When the Olympic torch relay comes to Bristol on Tuesday, May 22 next year, it will take to the water for a vintage boat ride, London 2012 organisers confirmed today. Our prediction is that this means either a voyage along the Floating Harbour, under the Suspension Bridge, or both, on board one of the boats owned by the M Shed, perhaps 1935 diesel tug the John King, or 1861 steam tug the Mayflower, believed to be the oldest surviving tug in the world.

What is known is that the torch will travel through Flax Bourton, Backwell, Nailsea, Failand, Leigh Woods and then back to Bristol through Hotwells, Henleaze and Old Market, culminating in an evening party on the Harbourside.

The street-by-street detail of the route will be confirmed next year, but for now it’s an excuse for this glorious aerial shot of Bristol as used on the London 2012 official site:
